the short version
- Typing your shelf, the house recipes, the dial, the budget and the shopping drawer all work on your phone, with no account.
- Photo reads and recipe search need an entrées account, and send what they need to Anthropic (Claude) after you allow it.
- süschef does not keep your photos.
- The standing list syncs through your entrées account and is stored in Sydney, Australia.
- No ads, no tracking, and no analytics in the iPhone app. We never sell your data.
who we are
süschef is made by Jordan Jeffery, trading as entrées studio, in Australia. On this page, "we" and "us" means that. You can reach us at tomspanx@entrees.live. The studio's other policies are listed at entrees.studio/privacy.
what stays on your phone
Your shelf, your dietary settings and goals, the recipes dealt, the dial, your budget and the shopping drawer are kept in the app on your phone. So are an offline copy of your standing list, your sign-in, and an åsecond connect key if you add one. If you turn on meal check-ins, so are an åsecond feed key and your check-ins from the last three days, plus any still waiting to send, so a second tap can tell a correction from a day åsecond has already filed. None of it reaches us unless a feature below sends it. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Camera. süschef uses the camera only when you photograph your fridge, cupboard or an ingredient to have it read.
Voice. If you use a microphone button, your phone's speech recognition (Apple's, on an iPhone) turns what you say into text under Apple's own privacy terms. We never receive the audio.
your entrées account
süschef signs in to an existing entrées account with a code sent to your email. It does not create accounts. One entrées account works across süschef, åsecond and pacioli.
When you are signed in, we store:
- your email address and account id, so you can sign in
- your standing list: the items on it and the notes you write beside them
We also use your account to check that a photo read or a recipe search comes from a signed-in person. We don't store anything else from süschef on our servers, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't sell it.
photo reads and recipe search
These are done by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. The first time you use one, süschef asks. If you choose not now, they stay off and the typed shelf and house recipes keep working. You can change your answer later in the app.
When you use them, this is what goes to Anthropic:
- Reading your shelf: the photo.
- "can I eat this?": the photo.
- "will this do the trick?": the photo and the question you type.
- "what can I cook with this?": the photo and the items on your shelf.
- Recipe search: the items on your shelf, your dietary requirements and goals (for example gluten free, or weight loss), the meal and occasion, what you are craving, the words you search for, and the chefs süschef dealt you recently. No photo.
Before a photo leaves your phone, süschef shrinks it and strips the hidden details a camera adds, including where it was taken. The request goes through our server on Vercel to Anthropic. We don't send your name, email or location, and our server does not store the photo or the request. Under Anthropic's commercial terms it is not used to train their models, and Anthropic keeps it only for the short time those terms allow, for example to check for misuse.
Your dietary requirements and goals can say something about your health. We use them only to suggest recipes, they go to Anthropic only as part of a recipe search, and we don't keep them, or your searches, on our servers.
who else receives data
- Supabase
- Runs sign-in and stores your standing list, in Sydney, Australia. Supabase (and the email service it uses) sends your sign-in codes.
- Vercel
- Hosts süschef on the web and runs the server that passes photo reads and recipe searches to Anthropic. The web version also loads Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. The iPhone app has no analytics.
- Google Fonts
- May serve süschef's typefaces. Google sees your IP address when they download.
- Shops and chefs
- The coles, woolies and amazon buttons open a search on that shop's website for the items you chose, like any link. Chef credits open the chef's own site. Those sites' own privacy terms apply there.
- åsecond, only if you connect it
- If you add an åsecond connect key and send a session, the session goes to your åsecond as text, andåsecond's policy applies to it.
- Data also reaches your åsecond if you turn on meal check-ins and tap one. Each tap sends the meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner), whether you ate or skipped it, the day, the quarter-hour, and your phone's time zone. It never sends the recipe, your shelf or your diet. Meal check-ins are off by default: they need a separate feed key from åsecond and the "send meal times to åsecond" box ticked. Unlink in the kitchen, or sign out of süschef, and they stop on that device. Neither deletes what åsecond already has. åsecond clears check-ins older than 90 days each time one of your apps sends it new Vitals data, or when you open Vitals while an app is still linked. If neither happens, they stay until you remove them in åsecond or delete the account.
- People you share with
- "share" and "copy link" put your session in the link. Anyone you send it to can open it.
Supabase, Vercel and Anthropic handle your information for us under their terms with us. Those terms require them to protect it at least as well as this policy does, and to use it only to provide their service to us. Google Fonts and the shop and chef sites act under their own privacy terms, and see only what is described above.
Like any online service, our hosts see your IP address and keep short technical logs to run and protect the service. We never sell your data.
data sent overseas
Your account and standing list are stored in Sydney. Photo reads and recipe searches pass through our server on Vercel in the United States to Anthropic, which is also in the United States. Google Fonts and the shops you open may process your IP address overseas. We send each of them only what the feature needs. This is the overseas disclosure Australian Privacy Principle 8 asks us to tell you about.
how long we keep it
- On your phone: until you clear it, or delete the app.
- Your standing list: until you remove the items, or delete the account.
- Photos, searches and questions: not kept by us. Anthropic keeps them only for the short time its commercial terms allow.
- Meal check-ins, if you turn them on: in your åsecond until you remove them there or delete the account. åsecond clears any older than 90 days each time one of your apps sends it new Vitals data, or when you open Vitals while an app is still linked. With no app linked, they have no fixed end date.
deleting your data
You can remove items from your standing list at any time. Deleting the app deletes everything it kept on your phone.
To delete your account, email tomspanx@entrees.live from your account address and we delete the account and everything tied to it within 30 days.
It is one entrées account, so this also deletes your åsecond and your pacioli books. Books you share with someone else stay with them.
children
süschef is not made for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has an account, email us and we will delete it.
security
Everything travels encrypted. Your standing list is locked to your account in our database, so no other account can read it. The key süschef uses to reach Anthropic stays on our server and never ships inside the app. No system is perfect: if something goes wrong that puts your information at risk, we will tell you what happened and what we are doing about it.
your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Email us from your account address. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, tell us first. If we don't fix it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner atoaic.gov.au.
changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new date. If a change matters, we will tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
